The year 1947 saw the parcel of India and the birth of the nation of Pakistan. During this time, the Indian film industry was segregated and the main film production center left in Pakistan was at Lahore. With the business bringing in its early stages, it was difficult to take a shot at film productions that had been started before the partition and big number of the movie producers, directors and actors had left for or remained back in India.
With numerous difficulties and hardships, finally the new film industry had the chance to release its first ever feature film, Teri Yaad (1948) on 7 August 1948. Film Teri Yaad premiered at the Parbhat Theater in Lahore. It featured Asha Posley and Nasir Khan.
Nasir Khan was brother of famous Indian actor Muhammad Yousuf aka Dilip Kumar who had remained back in Bombay, India. The playback soundtrack was composed and made by Inayat Ali Nath and produced by Dewan Sardari Lal’s Dewan Pictures and directed by Daud Chand, the film remained for a huge time on the big screens in Lahore, Quetta and Dhaka, Pakistan.
With release of Film Teri Yaad, Today Pakistani Cinema on 7th August have completed 72 years in Pakistan.
In these 72 years Pakistani Cinemas have seen many glorious actors, actresses, Musicians, Singer, Directors, Writers and Producer.
